A rhizomatous member of the iris family, the Blackberry Lily produces sword-like foliage and 2" flowers of burnt-orange spotted purple-brown. In late summer the flower stems reach a height of almost 3 feet, displaying numerous blooms (each lasts only a day) for several weeks running. When the blooms fade, a cluster of blackberry-like seeds replaces each flower. Best left to form a healthy clump in the border, by a roadside or in the wild garden. Use: border, natural, pot, dried (stems with seeds). 36/sq.yd. Native to India.
