Indigenous to eastern Europe, this richly-colored species produces a dense, hemispherical umbel 2-1/2" in diameter on 20" stems. The flowers are deep wine-red and so dense that the umbel becomes almost shuttle-cock-shaped in the fruiting stage. Attractive basal leaves. An easy, attractive species. Introduced in 1800.
