"Red Hot Poker", "Torch Lily" or "Tritoma" - A dramatic rhizomatous perennial native to South Africa. The plant forms clumps of grass-like leaves from which stout 3 to 4 foot stems emerge. In late summer each stem is topped with a dense, poker-shaped flower head covered with tightly massed tubular flowers. Well used as a clever exclamation point in the flower border or floral arrangements.
