Louise Beebe Wilder once penned the best description of this species when she wrote that "the color hints of raspberries, and it is very floriferous, as well as fragrant." The species is quite vigorous with flowers often 4" across. It propagates quickly and may even need to be lifted, divided and replanted every 3 years. Officially, the color is listed in The Small Bulb Register as "rosy-carmine." 24/sq.yd.

Have ordered both Colchicum and Fall Crocus from M&Z in years past as well as this Fall. All the bulbs put on a fantastic display with many persons stopping and asking what these flowers were since neither are common in my locale. Two things to get them to return year after year. Dig a little deeper and fill bottom of hole with perlite to keep them extra dry. I have ordered elsewhere, but I have repeatedly found these bulbs carried by M&Z to be larger and significantly less expensive than other dealers. I cannot describe how beautiful these flowers are when poking up through the tree leaves that cover everything in the Fall. I live in NW Wisconsin. They are just now at the end of their bloom and it is November 5 as I write this.
