Aside from its medicinal properties, this is a fascinating little woodland plant with large, paired, maple-shaped green leaves on short stems. In spring white petal-less flowers appear followed by green seeds and then raspberry-like fruit that sits down in the folds of the upper leaf as if caught there by chance. Its mustard-colored roots sprout along their length, so the plant forms a nice bold-textured ground cover. Plant in rich, moist, slightly acid to neutral soil. Bareroot cultivated stock.
