A member of the iris family, native to southern and tropical areas of Africa. Sword-shaped leaves are similar to those of gladiolus but are narrower and more graceful. The sweetly fragrant 3 to 4 inch flowers resemble creamy-white stars with chocolate brown centers. Each gracefully arching stem bears a mass of 8 to 12 blooms over a period of 3 to 4 weeks. Dig and store in a cool place over winter. Use: border, cut, pot.
