Famous for fragrance and a popular cutflower since the 16th century, tuberoses are still widely used in the florist trade.  Native only to Mexico, the tuberous bulb-like plants send up two to four 24 inch spikes carrying up to 30 fragrant white flowers.  The waxy flowers, often 2 to 3 inches in diameter, are carried in pairs.  Slender iris-like foliage sheaths the flower spikes before blooming.  Dig and store bulbs over winter.
